About Growing with Nature School
Our Approach
We are a nature-based licensed daycare and we will be spending most of the time at school outside. We are situated on a 1/2 acre in McKinleyville Ca. We have a large, sunny backyard for children to play and run around, as well as trees to climb, various plants to learn about and chickens and ducks. Enriching activities include: imaginative play, arts and crafts, exploring, water play and getting dirty.
Children may choose activities based on their current interests with lots of open-ended play and creative arts. Expression of self is fostered through mindfulness, creativity and play. We incorporate activities that engage all senses and use natural materials as much as possible. We encourage children to observe the world around them by celebrating the weather and the changing of the seasons.
Our Daily Rhythm
8am-9:30 am- Arrivals and Welcomes
After children have been welcomed, families will say their goodbyes and children may work on a seasonal activity or engage in free play.
9:45-10 – Circle Time
Gathering in a circle allows everyone to be seen and heard. We will enjoy singing, rhythm and movement before venturing off for outside play.
10-10:20 – Snack time outside
Children need lots of fuel for their growing bodies so we will make sure they eat often enough to gain energy throughout the day.
10:15-12pm – Outside play
We will spend this time outside exploring and playing.
12-12:30 – Wash up and lunch time
When we come back inside, we will wash our hands, change our clothes, if necessary and eat our lunch together.
12:30- 1pm – Inside Play and crafts
After lunch, children have some inside play and occasional arts and crafts.
*Story time will proceed naps and outside play*
1pm-2:30- Nap/Rest time(for children still napping)
For the children who are still napping, after story time they will settle down on their sleep mats with white noise. Once they awake, they will be led outside to greet the other children and teacher.
1-4 – Outside play
All non napping children will head outside for more outdoor fun!
3:30-3:50 – Pick up Time
Children may be picked up by their parents anywhere in between pick up time or earlier if needed. Please arrive no later than 3:50 to allow enough time for a quick check in and to gather your childs belongings. School is closed at 4pm.
